How to get there?
The presentations take place in the Undergraduate Center of the Aalto University Otaniemi Campus (address: Otakaari 1). Keynote presentations are held in a building nearby called Dipoli (Otakaari 24). The easiest way to to get to the campus from Helsinki is to take the metro from the Central Railway Station or Kamppi to direction Tapiola/Matinkylä and hop off at Aalto University’s namesake station.
A map of the campus area is available here.
General info about transportation:Helsinki area public transportation works well. The campus is connected to Helsinki’sbusiness (Kamppi), tourist (Rautatientori, Helsingin yliopisto), bar and restaurant (metro stations: Hakaniemi, Sörnäinen) districts with the underground (Metro, see campus map).
- Single ticket to the center (or back) costs 5€. Tickets are bought from the ticket machines at metro stations – the machines speak English and other European languages.
- You can also download the traffic operator’s, called HSL, app. It’s light, easy to use and buys the ticket cheaper, for 4,20€.
- If you plan to move between Helsinki and the campus a lot, you can buy a 72hr ticket (28€) or a 96hr ticket (35€). They are also bought at the ticket machines.
From the airport you can take a Finnair City Bus (schedule here) or the train (info here). There are also regional buses. Taxi from the airport costs (depending if you take it to the campus or to Helsinki) from 30 to 60 euros. Taxis are okay in Helsinki, you don’t need to negotiate or choose companies carefully!
